CHRIST KING -- The last few months of winter have been flying by at CKCS. With many, many activities happening, it's hard to believe that only three months are left of school.

On March 4, our Grade 8/9s participated in a Faith Retreat, guided by Ryan and Shaun from Face to Face Ministries. The day was filled with team building games, story sharing, and discussions about God, that really demonstrated His true love for them, and the importance of acknowledging Him in their lives. For lunch, the Grade 8/9s were picked up by the Ford limo and treated out to Boston Pizza. At the end of the day, as a special gift from the staff at CKCS, students were given a little journal filled with personalized notes from the teachers and support staff. A huge thank you goes to Mrs. Bohn for organizing the day - it is definitely an emotional experience that we would like all future junior highs to experience.

On March 5, both the boys and girls basketball team participated in the annual CARA tournament to finish off the basketball season. The boys' team played in the A pool tournament at the W.E. Hay gym while the girls played in the B pool tournament at CKCS. Overall, all our players played extremely well as a team and had a lot of fun. Our boy Chargers placed 5th overall, and our girl Chargers placed 4th. All junior highs are looking forward to the upcoming badminton season.

Last week, the final amount fundraised by CKCS for Jump Rope for Heart was announced. As a school, we raised a total of $4,326 for the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

CKCS also welcomed the return of their weekly school newspaper on March 9. Written and published by a group of junior high students, the first issue of "Junior-High Journal", sold for a quarter each week, was a huge success. Each edition contains upcoming school events, and articles on the school happenings. It even holds a weekly advice column written by Abbey Bohn, and a game page. It is published every Friday.

On March 10-11, the teachers of CKCS travelled to Edmonton for their annual teachers' convention. While there, teachers attended sessions on various topics. The opening keynote speaker was George Couros, who spoke on the advancements of technology and the effect it had on modern day classrooms. All teachers had a great time and returned home safely.

On March 14, the Grade 7 math class celebrated Pi Day. The date 3/14 matched the number equivalent of Pi. To celebrate, numerous pies were brought in - students were required to calculate the circumference and area of each pie in order to earn a piece!

This week, students look forward to St. Patrick's Day, and Mass on Friday.
