A tour of the 9th annual Big Valley Christmas show and sale on Saturday, Nov. 21 proved to be a pleasant surprise. Showcasing the talents of local artists and craftspeople, this event offered a charming array of unique arts, crafts, gifts and services.

With over 37 exhibitors participating, the items created by these talented people included a wide selection of sewing, knitting and crochet; unique wood crafts, attractive quilting, delightful handmade cards, jewelry, dolls and toys. There were barn wood creations, wreaths and stained glass treasures along with items of local interest such as Big Valley calendars and cards, cookbooks, assorted history books and the wonderful prints and paintings of some of our local artists. Home-based business owners displayed their unique wares and services, while gourmet products such as fruitcakes, cookies, tarts, shortbread, coffee, chocolates, pies and home canning rounded out the selections. Certainly, there was something to tempt every taste.

This annual event, located at the Big Valley Jubilee Hall, was expanded this year to include the Legion Hall. Exhibitors filled both venues, transforming each hall into authentic gallery-like settings. The event was very well attended, attracting folks interested in unique Christmas gifts, some pleasant conversation or enjoying lunch with friends.

Thank you to all the artists, crafts people and vendors who participated, to the customers who visited and purchased some beautiful items and to all the volunteers who helped to make this event such a big success.

Attendance was down at the hall board Bingo Thursday night. Don Saar was the caller for the evening. The progressive jackpot wasn’t won, with the consolation going to Lynne Palmer. Next week’s jackpot will be $152.00 in 52#. The bonanza was won by Arlyne Hingst with the consolation split between Ella Hockley, Arlyne Hingst and Lynne Palmer. The loonie pot is at $34.00. Come out and support the Community Hall.
