The annual Byemoor Slo-Pitch Tournament is coming up on Aug. 17-19 in Byemoor. There is still time to get your entries in to Raelynn Knowles at 403-741-6375 or Heather Tucker at 403-740-6180. Cost is $300 per team and the format is six guys and four girls.
The weekend also features pancake breakfasts on Saturday and Sunday and a parade, Kid’s Carnival and dance on Saturday.
It is time now to be thinking of your parade entries. The parade theme this year is Salute to Agriculture. Clubs and organizations, families, farms, neighbouring communities and all who enjoy parades are invited to bring a parade entry.
Adam and Paige Jones and their children Rylee, Rowdy and Memphis recently enjoyed a trip to Nova Scotia to visit family and see the sights. While there they were also able to attend the 90th birthday celebration for Paige’s grandfather.
Twila Buchwitz joined the other members of her family to spend a week in Maine, U.S.A. for the wedding of her brother Shane Hodgson and Heather Fuller. The couple were married at Lewistown, Maine on July 21. The newlyweds will be residing in Oakland, Maine.
Kirk was working away so couldn’t attend the wedding and their four boys stayed with Robert and Sheila Buchwitz and Lane and Bobbi Buchwitz while Twila was in Maine, where she reported the weather to be very humid.
Ken and Eleanor Schultz hosted their 36th annual camp-out weekend and pancake breakfast at their farm south of Endiang on the July 20-22 weekend. Saturday night featured a fantastic fireworks display. On Sunday morning the breakfast was interrupted by a rain shower, but in this part of the world we never turn away rain. Sunday also featured launching balloons for the 15th annual Great Endiang Ball Race and the Frisbee Golf Tournament. Thanks to the Schultz family once again for their hospitality.
Byemoor and Big Valley Fire Departments were called out to provide back-up service to put out a shop fire near Gadsby on July 25.
We send birthday greetings to a few upcoming birthday folks. Happy 83rd birthday wishes go out to Margaret Jones on Aug. 3 and Happy 65th birthdays to Robert Buchwitz on Aug. 5 and Barb (nee Hunt) Paetz on Aug. 8. We hope Robert and Barb enjoy being on the government payroll now.
Byemoor 4-H Beef Club held its annual awards night and supper on Thursday, July 26 at the Byemoor Community Hall, to wrap up another successful year for the club.
Members of the Endmoor Drop-In Centre were invited guests to the 4-H evening as a gesture of thanks, as the club uses the Drop-In Centre for some of its gatherings.
Big Valley had a busy week with the arrival of four steam trains, the 25th annual Bust-Out Rodeo and the Slo-Pitch Tournament all happening.
The berries are ready to pick at the U-Pick Saskatoon Patch in Big Valley. Cost is $10 per one gallon pail and proceeds all go to the Big Valley United Church.
Edmonton Fringe Festival will be presenting a play based on the Big Valley brothel fire at the Strathcona Library Theatre on Aug. 17-18 and Aug. 20-25. Tickets available at 780-668-2440.
Golfers keep in mind the Night Golf at the Big Valley golf course on Saturday, Aug. 18 with registration at 9 p.m. and the Big Valley Memorial Golf Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 8 with registration at 10 a.m.
