Volunteers have been busy restoring the large mural on the west side of the Endmoor Drop-In Centre building in Byemoor.

The mural depicted a scene of Byemoor’s busy Main Street from the early years. Time and weather have faded the mural, originally painted by the late Phyllis Starling.

Kim Wasdal spearheaded the restoration project to refresh the mural in time for Byemoor’s Centennial in June 2025.

Volunteers on scaffolds, with the artistic guidance of Melanie Koch (Phyllis Starling’s daughter) have diligently been painting to bring the colourful mural back to life. With the cooler weather approaching it is anticipated the project will be completed in the spring. Hats off to the volunteers – the mural looks wonderful already.

Sympathy is extended to the family of Dorothy (Dot) Wasdal who passed away on Oct. 4 in Stettler at the age of 97 years.

Dot was a long-time resident of the Byemoor community. She was raised on a farm southwest of Byemoor with her siblings Olwin and Bob and was the youngest child of Albert and Connie Green. Dot married Art Wasdal and they farmed west of Byemoor where they raised their family of six children – Stan, Jim, Marilyn, Murray, Ray and Wendy.

In recent years, Art and Dot retired to Stettler. Throughout their life at Byemoor, Dot and her late husband Art were very community-minded and were active volunteers with several local organizations.

Our thoughts are with the Wasdal and Green families in their loss. Dot was a highly esteemed member of the community and will always be remembered for her friendly smile, pleasant personality, caring nature and being family-oriented

A memorial service will be held for the late Dot Wasdal on Saturday, Oct. 26 at the Byemoor Community Hall at 2 p.m.

Raechel Boertien returned on Oct. 10 from a visit to her home province of Ontario to visit her parents at their farm at Lakeside, Ont.

She travelled home to attend her cousin’s wedding at Denfield, Ont. Raechel enjoyed seeing so many family members during her visit.

Raechel and her husband Jared live on the former Cliff Donald farm.

Remember the Byemoor Fall Roast Beef Supper is coming up on Saturday, Oct. 19 at the Byemoor Community Hall from 4 – 7 p.m. Get your taste buds primed for beef.
