Celebrate Canada Day at the 20th annual Wade Buchwitz Memorial Gymkhana in Endiang on July 1st beginning at 11 a.m.

Contestants may register with the online entry forms or call or text Twila Buchwitz at 403-323-0397 — entries close on Sun, June 25.

The day will feature a number of gymkhana events, an on-site concession, a weiner or smokie roast, a dirt dance and end things off with fireworks. Everyone is welcome at no charge. Sponsorships are being accepted from anyone wishing to support the event.

The Byemoor Tailgate Market is back. The first market of the season will be on Thu, June 29 from 11 a.m. until noon. There is no charge to vendors, just set up on Main Street in Byemoor and sell your produce and wares.

Byemoor Landfill Transfer Station will be closed on Sat, July 1 as it is Canada Day. However, the station will be open on Fri, June 30 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. for your convenience. Regular hours will resume after July 1 to Wednesday evenings and Saturdays again.

Word was received of the passing of Ivy (Nill) Borthwick of Lacombe on May 1. She was 81. Ivy and her first husband Fred Nill farmed south of Endiang for several years until his passing in 1982. They had three children – Reid, Kathryn and Trent, who were young when Fred passed. Fred and Ivy were involved in the community and their children started their schooling in Endiang.

Our thoughts and sympathy are with Ivy’s family in their loss. She will be interned at a later date at St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery, which was a mile from the Nill farm, to rest beside her first husband Fred and son Reid.

Kristy Smith and Claire Hamilton from England arrived on June 15 to spend two weeks with Kristy’s parents Bill and Linda Smith, as well as visit other relatives and friends. Enjoy your Canadian stay, Kristy and Claire.

A small crowd of just under 50 people enjoyed the Father’s Day Pancake Breakfast at the Endiang Community Hall on Sun, June 18. Proceeds will be used for the operation of the hall. Thanks to all who supported the event.

We hope all the dads had a good Father’s Day, celebrating with family gatherings, camping, fishing, sporting events or other events of their choosing.

The district finally received some rainfall, which gave welcome relief from the extended dry spell. We just hope it continues for the remainder of the growing season.
