The Nixon Family Reunion was hosted by Dale and Carol Nixon at their place near Stettler on the June 2 – 4 weekend. It was attended by 165 family members who enjoyed a weekend of reminiscing, visiting and meeting the newest members of the latest generation.

All were descendants of the late Jack and Christena Nixon who farmed a number of years at Byemoor and had 10 children; six boys – Jim, John, Glenn, Vern, Dave and Harold Nixon and four girls – Ruby (Graham), Mary (Carmichael), Alice (Clayton) and Amy (Bates). Today, Jack and Christena have over 1,000 descendants.

Tim Bates and his family from Chile came the furthest for the reunion.

Easton Scheerschmidt had the opportunity to travel with other football players of the Alberta Selects to participate in the Northwest Showcase. Their tour included the Western Oregon University in Corvallis, Oregon and the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington where the boys demonstrated their skills with a number of recruiters present. Easton’s dad Cody Scheerschmidt accompanied him on the five-day trip.

Senior’s Week was recognized in Alberta from June 5 – 9 and in Byemoor was celebrated on June 6 with a well-attended gathering at the Endmoor Drop-In Centre. Councillor Les Stulberg presented a fruit tray on behalf of the County of Stettler and sweets from him and Rosemary. Many thanks to all our seniors for the many contributions they have made to our communities and continue to make.

This is a fitting quote regarding seniors – “Caring for our seniors is perhaps the greatest responsibility we have. Those who walked before us have given so much and made possible the life we all enjoy.” – John Hoeven.

There will be a bridal shower in honour of Traci Kruisselbrink, bride-elect of Warren Jones, on Wednesday, June 21 at 7 p.m. at the Byemoor Community Hall. Ladies, please bring lunch.
