Byemoor-Endiang news

News for the week of Dec. 1, 2022

Byemoor Arena had a busy hockey weekend Nov. 26-27.

On Saturday, the Endmoor U9 team hosted Drumheller and the Endmoor U11 team hosted Bentley. On Sunday, the Endmoor U9 team hosted Hanna. It was a great weekend for the young hockey players.

Congratulations to first-time parents Logan and Claire Gutsche on the very early arrival of their son Liam Nathaniel Gutsche on Nov. 18 in Red Deer. Liam weighed five pounds six ounces. Liam will have an extended hospital stay but we hope he is home soon.

Congratulations also go out to the local grandparents Wes and Karen Gutsche and great-grandparents Art and Lucy Gutsche.

Sympathy is extended to the family of Letty (nee Schultz) Browne of Stettler who passed away unexpectedly on Nov. 19 at 80 years of age.

Letty Schultz grew up at Endiang, the only child of Violet Schultz. For a time Letty was organist at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, a country church in the Scapa – Endiang area. After her mother married Herb Wilkes, Letty spent time with them in California where she earned her teaching degree.

Letty married Darrell Browne of Byemoor and they raised two children, Brett and Becky. Letty had a teaching career that spanned more than 30 years, with most of those years spent in Stettler and the first few in Byemoor.

Our thoughts are with the Browne and Schultz families in their very sad loss. Letty will long be remembered for her cheerful personality. Her funeral service will be held on Friday, Dec. 2 at 1 p.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Stettler.

Byemoor Christmas Market and Santa Claus Day is only a few days away, coming up on Saturday, Dec. 3 at the Byemoor Community Hall from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Santa arrives at 2 p.m.

A concession will be open and the day will be an excellent opportunity to get some shopping done, pick up some Christmas baking, have lunch and a visit with friends and neighbours and for the youngsters get a candy bag and tell Santa their wish list. There will also be sleigh rides around town.

Humour for the day —

“I’m going to quit my job and travel the world until I run out of money. I estimate I’ll be home again around 10 p.m. tonight.”

“The medical term for owning too many dogs is Roverdose.”

“These days I get most of my exercise from shaking my head in disbelief.”
