The Byemoor Centennial Celebration is nearly here, and it's time to commemorate the community’s proud 100-year history on June 7.

A parade kicks off the day’s events at 11 a.m. with marshalling of parade entries at the school grounds at 10 a.m.

The Opening Ceremonies program is at noon at the community hall. Displays of memorabilia and the area’s history will be on display in the curling rink. There will be tours of the former high school, the present school and the former Anglican Church.

There will be kids’ games, entertainment, a B-B-Q, dance and fireworks, plus plenty of opportunities to visit and reminisce.

Kristy Smith from England is spending two weeks visiting her parents, Bill and Linda Smith, at Endiang, plus other family members and friends. During her stay, she was also able to attend the high school graduation of her niece Macey Burns in Rimbey.

On May 23, the Byemoor School students were joined by Byemoor - Endiang councillor Les Stulberg to plant a tree in front of the school commemorating the Byemoor Centennial as well as the County of Stettler’s 70th Anniversary.

To further mark the special occasions, each student was also presented with a pair of spruce trees to take home and plant, courtesy of the County of Stettler Agricultural Service Board.

May 23 was a busy day at the school as it was also Bob the Builder Day. The kindergarten class was joined by their Dads to build benches and small picnic tables to take home. This project is always a highlight for the youngsters.

Congratulations to Keifer and Brooklyn Grover on the birth of their son Dallas Jake Grover on May 23. Dallas weighed six pounds 11 ounces. He is welcomed by big sisters Sandra, Laura and Jayla. Enjoy your new addition, Grover family.

Congratulations to Miquel Zarco, one of Endiang’s newer residents, and Montse Barbera of Spain who were married on May 25 in Spain. We wish the newlyweds all the best for a marriage filled with many years of happiness.

Congratulations to Colter Buchwitz on his success at the Provincial High School Rodeo in Sundre. Colter achieved his goal of making the top ten All-Around boys.

Colter and Carson Brower placed third over-all in Team Roping which qualifies them for Nationals. Colter and Chesney Anderson placed fifth in Ribbon Roping and Colter also placed fifth in Chute Dogging.

Colter advances to the Canadian High School Finals in July, representing Alberta in Tie Down and Team Roping. Good luck, Colter.

There will be a Bridal Shower for Elizabeth Strang, bride-elect of Gunnar Keith, on Saturday, June 21 at 2 p.m. at the Byemoor Community Hall. Ladies please bring lunch and your favourite recipe, in place of a traditional card.

Happy Birthday wishes are sent to Joe Knowles who celebrated his 89th birthday on May 28. Hope you had a great day, Joe.

Humour for the Day —

“Were the early days of history called the Dark Ages because there were so many Knights?”
“If you get run over every day by the same bike, is it a vicious cycle?”
“I made a huge to-do list for today, I just can’t figure out who is going to do it.”
“Why is it the one who snores falls to sleep first?”
