Byemoor, Big Valley celebrate Seniors’ Week

Events planned

By Les and Rosemary Stulberg

The County of Stettler and Town of Stettler have jointly proclaimed June 3 – 9 as Senior’s Week. Senior’s Week will be marked with some special events to honour the senior’s who have contributed so much to our communities.

Seniors are invited to celebrate in Byemoor at the Endmoor Drop-In Centre on June 7 at 2 p.m. with an afternoon coffee party.

In Big Valley seniors are welcome to join for a luncheon at noon. Stettler County is providing fruit trays for both events.

Young people put down roots

Several young folks of the community are enjoying, or are soon to enjoy, new homes. Jonathon and Raelynn Knowles and Wyatt moved into their new home earlier this spring, which was completed this winter on their farm (the former Ed and May Knowles farm).

Lee and Tye Ainsworth have moved a home onto the land across the road from their parents’ farm, Max and Elaine Ainsworth.

Warren Jones’ new home is under construction on the Jones farm, just south of his parents Mark and Julie Jones’ yard.

Congratulations to all these folks, we hope you enjoy your new dwellings to the fullest. It is great to see young people setting permanent roots in our rural community.

Harold Kobi passes

Sympathy is extended to the family of Harold Kobi who passed away on May 3 in Kelowna, B.C. He was 83. Harold was raised in the Byemoor community. He had a life-long career with the CNR, mainly at Jasper, AB but also Kelowna.

Harold still has several family members in the area, many of whom attended his memorial service in Kelowna on May 20.

Congratulations to Mike and Mary-Jane Jackson on their 40th wedding anniversary. They were honoured with a celebration at Rochon Sands to mark their special milestone.

Congratulations to Lance and Teanne Johnson on the birth of their third son on May 23. He is a little brother for Felix and Wyatt. The Johnson family resides on the former Eggins place, south of Endiang.

DeAnna Groundwater enjoyed a vacation in Italy with her cousin. They took in many sites of interest and enjoyed the Italian culture.

Emily Brown, Jesse Jack, Jesse Jolicoeur and Ally Walker were the Byemoor girls among the 2018 graduating class of William E. Hay in Stettler on the weekend. Congratulations to all the graduates; may all your dreams and inspirations come true.

Mark calendars for 4-H show and sale

Keep in mind the Stettler District 4-H Show and Sale is on June 4-5 at the Stettler Agriplex. Clubs participating include Byemoor, Big Valley, Big Knife and Erskine.

The heifer show is on June 4 at 2 p.m. while the steer show starts at 9 a.m. on June 5 and the sale is set for 7 p.m.
