Busy summer in store for Big Valley

The Historical Society’s McAlister Motors is now open most days from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

BIG VALLEY BULLETIN -- The Historical Society’s McAlister Motors is now open most days from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the tool museum is open most afternoons. If you would like to see inside the blue church, green baggage cars, railway station or grain elevator just come on down when the train is in. During that time, everything is open with guides inside to answer your questions. A big thank you to the volunteers who help make it possible for the facilities to be open for viewing.

It is not too late to phone Flo at 403 876-2593 or Kate at 403-876-2880 to become a train time volunteer.

The official grand opening of the new tool museum is next Sunday, May 29 from 1 to 4 p.m. The ribbon cutting is at 1 p.m. followed by an open house, light refreshments and some door prizes.

The Big Valley Slo-Pitch league had its earliest start ever. With six teams participating, it is a good sign for the future.

There are two tournaments scheduled this year. The first one, hosted by the Ag. Society, is on the June 24 weekend with the live band recording artists “Domino” performing at the Saturday night dance. The second tournament will be hosted by the B.V. Fire Department on the Aug. 6 weekend.

There has also been a lot of interest in kids’ ball with a large coach pitch time consisting of 4-6 year olds, a team for the 7-9 year olds, a small team of 10-12 year olds and for any kids 13 and over, there is a drop-in session every Tuesday from 4:30 to 6 p.m.

Looks like a busy summer.

The Big Royal Purple host their annual Seniors’ Day Luncheon (for seniors 55+) on Wednesday, June 1 at 12 noon at the Big Valley Jubilee Hall.

If you are a returning player, new to the area, or would like to give it a try next year, come to registration night. New players, please bring a birth certificate.
