Harold Chick celebrated his 50th year as an active member of the Halkirk Elks. The club presented him with a gift certificate so he and Velma could enjoy an evening out. Congratulations.

Congratulations to Brandon Kent (12) who was one of 20 pee wee hockey players in Zone 4 selected to skate in a Calgary Flames super skills competition.

From the 80 players present, Brandon was one of 16 chosen to skate with the team on Sunday, January 3. He (with dad Bob) were given a tour of the Flames dressing room and received a souvenir jersey.

Dick and Ann Creasey accompanied by Larry and Lorene Stulberg returned Sunday from a week of sun and fun in Cuba. The highlight of their holiday was the New Year’s Eve feast of barbecued animals, chicken, pig, a whole cow and a seven foot crocodile.

Cindy Creasey who is attending the University of Calgary spent the holidays at home, returning to classes on Jan. 11.

David and Sharon Cordel of Barhead spent a few days of the holidays visiting in the area.

Visiting with Irene Schilling was sister Ida and Gib Hallett from Sherwood Park and their son Randy and his friend Shirley from Smith and Shane Schilling from Calgary.

Lowell and Janette Berry were pleased to have most of their family home on Boxing Day, including their new great-granddaughter.

John and Judy deMos welcomed in the New Year with Johns brother Keith and Suzzanne of Calgary and Noel and Shirley McBride.

Christmas at the home of Tony and Clara Nibourg saw Claras sisters, Helen, Thelma and Cory and their families present.

On Boxing Day they were joined by their uncle Raymond Farnells of Calgary and two of his daughters, Martha and Thono from Vancouver and Paula and Steve and girls from Oakville, On. Jenna spent the holidays at home returning to Vermillion college on January 4.

We send greetings out to Murray Thomson of Vancouver, who reads the Halkirk news in the Stettler Independent via the internet.

Murray leaves this week for the Republic of Mali in Western Africa where his company will drill for gold samples.

Rocky and Louanne Dalmer hosted Rocky’s family at an early Christmas on the 20th. Attending were Elaine from Lacombe, her daughter Val and Brian and son Lane and Gabrielle, Eddie, and Jean Plouvier of Castor.

On Christmas Day, Louanne’s mother, Hazel of Wetaskwin and brothers Trevor, Cheryl and Paige and Blaine and Amy all of Calgary joined them.

Celebrating Christmas Day with Louie and Fern Engel at the Paintearth lodge was Don, Kjerene and Brad of Edmonton, Dianne and girls of Didsbury, Dennis and Doris, Wayne, Jason and Francis of Daysland, Adrian and Cassandra of Davidson, Sk, Corrine and boys of Sedgewick, Jean Plouvier and Sarah Cordel.

On Boxing Day, the Cordel family gathered with Deirdre and Ron Muncy. Present were Sarah, Dennis and Doris and family, Gordie, Kristie, Don and boys of Erskine, Scott and family of Penhold and Allan Henderson from Forestburg. Sarah Cordel entertained family at her house on New Year’s Day.

Brian Kent of Camrose spent the holidays with grandma and grandpa, Dale and Melody and played with the cousins.

On Jan. 3, Dale and Melody and family gathered at the Rosalind drop-in centre when 8 of the 11 Adair siblings got together for their annual family holiday reunion.
