On May 7, 1945, the formal German surrender was signed in Rheims, France, marking the end of World War II. It is only fitting, then, that on Friday, May 7, 2010, 65 years later, Big Valley Legionnaires held their annual literary and poster awards ceremony, acknowledging the fine efforts made by the students honouring those who gave their lives for the freedom we all enjoy. All Big Valley students must be commended for the truly outstanding work they put forth, as well as the school and educators who help to keep this fine program ongoing.

A weekend of celebrating brought the citizens of Big Valley together numerous times this past weekend.

Big Valley’s Frontier General Store celebrated their third anniversary with a community BBQ on Saturday, May 8. Fortunately, the weather co-operated and the turn out was great. Big Valley would like to thank the whole Kim family for the opportunity to enjoy a fun community get-together and a fine lunch.

Sunday’s Hall Board Mother’s Day pancake breakfast filled the Jubilee Hall. Not only a time to honour mothers, it seems Big Valley loves the chance to meet over a good meal.

The spirit of celebration extended through the rest of the day with many of those who attended the morning breakfast gathering together once more over supper at the Big Valley Inn or Hulley’s Hideaway.
