Big Valley Rusty Spurs elect their new executive, next Legion meeting Monday - Big Valley Bulletin

With the Christmas break now over, the Big Valley Oil Kings will be getting back into the swing of things with their first home game of the New Year, this Friday, Jan. 7 against Consort. Game time is 8:30 p.m. The Kings are now sitting in sixth place in the league and are three points behind Tofield. With only five home games left of eight remaining in regular season play, the Kings are looking for a good position in the post season.

Voting for the main executive was held at the first meeting of the Big Valley Rusty Spurs for the 2010/11 season. President - Brooke Reynolds, vice-president - Mackenzie Sorensen, secretary – Morgan Lawrence, treasurer – Aislinn Reule, historian – Victoria Hodgson, club reporter - Baileigh Sorensen, and thank-you person – Willow Sorensen. The general leader is Lori Reule and the club assistant leaders are Shirley Woods, Gail Boulding, Joe Lee, Kym Lawrence, Jimilee Chostner, and Karen Sorensen. This year there are 12 members in the club with participants in the young horse project, jumping, dressage, miniature driving project and horsemanship levels 1 through 4.

The club members have already participated in their club health records workshop, Skocdopole roping, and the club record book workshop. In December, the members took part in community service by packing and delivering Christmas hampers to the Big Valley community with the help of the United Church ladies. Their Christmas party was held at the United Church and included an evening of sledding.

The Rusty Spurs will be holding their annual bottle drive on Jan. 15. They will begin collecting bottles at around 9 a.m. in the Village of Big Valley. Any rural residents wishing to donate to the club please contact Club Leader Lori Reule at 876-2080. The group will also be collecting used cell phones for a recycling program as part of their club’s fund raising efforts. Many thanks to everyone for their continued support of this club.

The next Big Valley Legion meeting will be held on Monday, Jan. 10 at 7:30 p.m. at the Legion Hall.

The Big Valley Dropin Centre Crib group held their first meeting of the New Year this past Sunday, Jan. 2 with 10 players out for the afternoon. 1st went to Edna Sugden, 2nd to Christine Rogers, and 3rd to Ron Milton. This week the booby went to Donna Clark.
