Big Valley marksmen in regional success

This past summer, David Johnston of Big Valley, competed in a rifle marksmanship event at the Rosebud Range, located near Sibald Flats, west of Calgary. He scored in the top third among all competitors in the provincial High Power Silhouette Championship.

More recently, at the Canadian National Silhouette Championships, held near Kamloops, B.C., David scored in the top third among sharpshooters from Alberta, Saskatchewan, British Columbia, Washington State, North West Territories, and the Yukon. Congratulations.

According to Sharon Mahoney, Margaret Dietz, a longtime Big Valley resident (more recently of Willow Creek), has now moved to St. Albert, Alberta to be near her daughter. Her new phone number is 780-418-5447.

Margaret Levesque reports that Andy Connor has been transferred to Edmonton’s Glenrose Rehabilitation Center where he is “coming along well”. Well wishers can contact him at 780-735-6354.

The board members and staff of the Big Valley Municipal Library would like to extend our appreciation to the community for their ongoing support. Over the past six months, the library has received significant donations of popular, gently used books which we will be more than happy to add to our collection. The most recent donations include adult fiction, westerns and a wonderful collection of new children’s books.

We would also like to thank the members of the Big Valley Memorial Golf Tournament for their latest, generous financial donation.

The next board meeting of the Big Valley Municipal Library will be on Monday, Sept. 27 at 7:30 p.m. at the Legion Hall.

The family literacy based program, “1, 2, 3, Sing With Me” is starting up again after the summer break. This free program for parents and caregivers of children up to five years of age will be held Wednesday mornings at the Big Valley United Church basement between 10 and 11:30 a.m. beginning Sept. 29. The annual Big Valley “Christmas Craft Show and Sale” is now accepting bookings for this year’s event. If you are interested, please contact Andrea at 403-876-2064.

The Big Valley School magazine sales fundraiser kicks off on Sept. 22. Money raised helps fund school related functions and activities.

The annual Terry Fox Run will be held on the afternoon of Thursday, Sept. 30. Participating children have been actively collecting sponsorship donations and thank the community for their support. Volunteer help on the day of the event would be greatly appreciated.
