Big Valley event schedule is filling up

The Big Valley Historical Society volunteers are extra busy now getting ready for the summer season.

The Big Valley Historical Society volunteers are extra busy now getting ready for the summer season. The first train is only a couple of weeks away (May 14) and tourists are already starting to drive into town. Society volunteers will be doing spring cleanup at the various facilities in the next few weeks. They have also started a bit of repair work inside the blue church.

The displays at the new museum are filling up fast and so is the building. They may not be able to fit in Rod Miller's whole collection—who would have thought they would run out of room.

Nineteen players came out for the final crib tournament of the season at the Big Valley Inn on Sunday, April 24. Margaret Levesque took first place, Lawrence Wilkie took second place and Stan Nattestad took third place. Caroline Pound won the booby and Doug Harrold won the regular draw. The players enjoyed delicious finger foods and drinks after the games. Thank you to all the staff at the Big Valley Inn for their help and for hosting the tournaments. A special thank you to Dorothy Annable for her help and support with the running of the games.

The Big Valley Legion will hold elections at their scheduled meeting on Tuesday, May 3 at 7:30 p.m. On Thursday, May 5 beginning at 11:30 a.m., they will be announcing the Remembrance Day School Poster contest winners.

The Hivernant Metis Cultural Society will hold their annual "Spring Fling" on Saturday, May 7 at Big Valley's Jubilee Hall. There will be a supper and dance with a live band. Doors open at 4 p.m. with supper being served at 6 p.m. Come out and enjoy a fun family friendly evening.

Come on out to Big Valley's annual Bust-out Rodeo on May 13 and 14 at the Agriplex. Rodeo action begins at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 13 and at 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 14. The dance on Saturday night will feature live music by Brad Abel & Trouble. This year's rodeo clown is Houston Stewart and new to the weekend events will be 12's and under participating in the wild pony racing. The 2016 Bust-out Rodeo is in Memory of Biff Balcom.

Don't forget the annual Mother's Day breakfast at the community hall from 9 to 11 a.m. on Sunday, May 8.
