Big Valley 4H Beef Club

The Big Valley 4-H Beef Club is set to have a great year. The club met on Sept. 24 at the Big Valley school for our first meeting.

We have 18 members with two new members, Taylor Elines and Weston Fahey. We have a new leader this year, Raelene Sobchyshyn. She has two kids in 4-H and was a member of this club for eight years when she was growing up. The members voted on new positions: President: Hannah Elines; Vice President - Jesse Jarmin; Secretary - Shelby Sobchyshyn;

Treasurer - Eric Elines; and Club Reporter - Peyton Lyke (myself!).

The club discussed the change to weigh-in day as it is set for Nov. 3 from 9 -12 at The Stettler Auction Mart. This will be for all clubs this year, as in the past it was held throughout the county at a different location for each club. To anyone wanting to join 4-H and hasn’t decided, there is still time, you just have to pick a club, and have your calf weighed in on Saturday.

Public speaking was also discussed, and the senior members will all give a speech or a presentation, as public speaking are requirements within 4-H.

With all the members busy with activities and project animals, the time will go by very quickly leading up to our Annual Show and Sale held on May 20 - 21, 2019, in Byemoor.

We are looking forward to showing off our finished projects off in the ring and then auction off the evening of May 21. We would like to once again express our gratitude to everyone who purchased a steer last year, as well as all our supporters — we greatly appreciate it.

Our next meeting is on Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. at the Big Valley Agriplex.
