Big Family reunion over Canada Day weekend

BYEMOOR/ENDIANG NEWS -- About 280 people attended the Walker family reunion held in Byemoor on the weekend. Descendants of three Walker families who settled in the Endiang Byemoor area gathered, with representation from the families of Fred and Margaret Walker, Harry and Bessie Walker and Lloyd and Helen Walker. Family members enjoyed much reminiscing, visiting, feasting and catching up on happenings since their last family reunion in 2009.

A large turn-out enjoyed the Wade Buchwitz Memorial Gymkhana held on July 1 at the Endiang Riding and Roping Arena with around 80 contestants participating.

High-point winners included: Tiny Mite Kate Brady and Wyatt Elder (tie), Pee Wee Macey Burns, Junior Torie Brower and Senior Adam Jones.

Fireworks concluded the gymkhana and Canada Day celebrations.

Kate Woelk is a city slicker now. Kate has sold her farm and moved into the hamlet of Endiang. She purchased the former home of Eugene and Gloria Rabb, once the Alberta Wheat Pool agent’s house.

Kiefer Grover has purchased the Woelk farm and will be moving there. We wish Kate and Kiefer all the best in their new locations.

We send get well wishes to Rick Laak in the Red Deer hospital and Donnie Walker in the Stettler hospital. Your Endmoor friends are thinking about you, Rick and Donnie.

We extend sympathy to the family of Ed Glubrecht who passed away in Hanna on June 26 at the age of 100 years. Ed grew up and farmed at Scapa but was well known in the Endiang community as his brother Gottfried (Maggie) Glubrecht and sister Martha (Erich) Woelk farmed in our community for many years.

Ed’s funeral was on Wednesday at the Lutheran church in Hanna with burial at St. Peter’s Lutheran cemetery.

Kirk and Twila Buchwitz and boys are enjoying a visit from Twila’s brother Shane Hodgson from Maine, USA and Twila’s parents Larry Hodgson and Sandi Hodgson from Melfort, Sask.

Mickey Tucker, Ruby Hausher, Carol Stulberg and Rosemary Stulberg took in the bus excursion from Hanna to the Deerfoot Casino in Calgary on Thursday haven’t heard any reports of new millionaires though.

We send happy 65th birthday wishes to Audrey (Knowles) Hausher on July 5. Family members joined Audrey at her home at Duchess for an early celebration on June 28. Enjoy being on the government payroll, Audrey.

Local folks celebrated Canada Day in various ways. Some took in the Ponoka Stampede, which wrapped up Sunday. Congratulations to Colt Cosgrave of the Hand Hills on winning the chuckwagon championship there. Colt is Robin Walker’s nephew and he has many fans in our area.

Dan and Verla Buchwitz are holding an auction sale of their antiques and collectables on July 23 at 10 a.m. in Endiang in the former Ballinger’s Garage location. Auctioneer is Dave Shields.
