There were two farms at Byemoor, the McCrindle and Green families, celebrating their 100 year anniversaries on the weekend. Local MLA and Minister of Agriculture, the Honourable Jack Hayden and area councillor and deputy reeve of the County of Stettler, Les Stulberg were on hand to make presentations at both. Many members of the McCrindle family along with some close neighbours and friends gathered at the original homestead, the SW 9-35-16-W4, for the Saturday afternoon celebration. Most members of the McCrindle descendents were able to attend, including the twin daughers of the late Janet (McCrindle) MacDonald, Hazel Miller and Heather Rich, both of B.C. Congratulations to the McCrindle family on reaching this milestone and best wishes for many more years of successful farming.
Dolly McCrindle also celebrated her 75th birthday on Saturday. Hope you enjoyed your day, Dolly, and best wishes for many more happy birthdays.
The Green family hosted an open house at the farm of Dale and Dee Green to mark the 100th anniversary of their farm. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Green came from Ontario in 1910 to homestead the SE 30-34-17-W4, the quarter which the Wolf Hill Cemetery is now situated on. There was a large crowd of family, friends and neighbours joining the Greens to celebrate this wonderful milestone, some drom as far away as Manitoba and B.C. The celebration began with an afternoon of visiting and refreshments followed by a supper with entertainment supplied by Irene and Marty Brooker and the evening concluded with fireworks. A tip of the Stetson to the Greens for their wonderful hospitality and congratulations on your 100-year farm, may you enjoy many more successful years of farming in the generations to come. The Greens had a hay mower on display that Thomas Green had brought with him from Ontario 100 years ago.
Congratulations to Kristin Nixon and Taylor Coates on their recent engagement. A fall wedding is planned.
Tyson Keith and his girlfriend Kary Sweeberg travelled to Chicago for the first game of the Stanley Cup finals between Chicago and Philadelphia on May 29. Tyson is an avid Philadelphia Flyers fan and, while there, was interviewed and the interview is posted on the Flyers website. Sounds like a very interesting experience.
Congratulations to Jody Keith and Jim Stimson on the birth of their daughter Joslyn Amber Christina Stimson, born June 1 at the Drumheller hospital, weighing in at 8 lbs, 4 oz. Jim’s mother and sister visited from Brooks on the weekend to get acquainted with the newest member of their family. Congratulations also to local grandparents Doug and Deanna Johnson.
Jack Hayden had many members of his family home on the weekend, including his mother Ethel Hayden from Calgary, to help him celebrate his 60th birthday on Sunday. Happy birthday, Jack, and many more.
Endiang is looking a little different these days as county crews have demolished two houses on county-owned lots that were no longer livable and becoming safety issues. The homes once owned and built by Tommy and Maud Hilton and Jack and Olga Ritchie bit the dust. Coincidently, both these couples operated hardware stores in town at one time.
The next meeting of the Endiang Centennial Committee will be held on Monday, June 14 at 7:30 p.m.
