The birthday party of the month was postponed from Monday, Aug. 17 due to the funeral service for Irene Gogol. It is rescheduled for Monday, Aug. 31 at the same time of 1:30 p.m.
The 65th annual garden show is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 26, so watch for prize lists and further information as to times.
Best wishes to hospital patients, Abbie McNaughton and Gloria Courturier, who are spending some time in Drumheller hospital.
Congratulations to St. Mary’s Health Care Center in Trochu as they celebate 100 years of the arrival of the sisters from France who started the school and hospital in 1909. Festivities were held in Trochu over the weekend and were very well attended. We are proud to have two ladies from our area serving on the board at the hospital, Dariel McNaughton and Pat Holowath.
All are to be commended on the success of the event. There were several nuns and priests attending from other countries.
It is with very mixed feeling to report the passing of Irene Gogol on Wednesday, Aug. 12 at her residence in Extended Care of St. Mary’s Health Care Center in Trochu. It is very sad when a mother, grandmother, friend passes but Irene had to be a patient in the nursing home for the past 7-and-a-half years and did not enjoy a very good quality of life during this time. Although she had the best of care, she was not able to respond to her surroundings and enjoy her family like she always did in the past.
With the addition of late pledges and recounting, the figure raised for STARS on Sunday, Aug. 9 is $44,317.16, raising the twenty years total to $448,978.84 The picture that was presented to the STARS committee now hangs in the Rumsey community hall for all to enjoy. The awards that have been received over the years are the combined effort of the whole community, so it is fitting that they hang in the community hall.
