The “Get Ready to Learn” ECS program is a partnership between schools and Alberta Health Services. ECS teachers, speech-language pathologists, speech-language assistants, and parents will enjoy working together to teach children important skills for communication, learning, and literacy. This program includes exciting learning experiences for children in the classroom. Topics include:

-Observation Skills

-Body Language

-Listening Behaviors

-Topic Maintenance & Turn-taking

-Positive and Negative Ways to Talk

-Understanding Sound

-Rhyming

-Segmenting Sentences and Syllables

-Blending Sentences & Syllables

Lessons are taught using games, stories, songs, and other activities. The children have opportunity to practice what they have learned both in the classroom and at home.

Christ King School is one of the pilot schools selected to participate in the program this year. We have been meeting with the ECS classroom on Wednesday mornings to learn and have fun together. This program is intended to benefit the whole class and acts as a supplement to individual speech-language treatment. We are excited about this program and are having a good time learning and playing with the children.

In other news, we have a number of things coming up: Our friendship celebration will be at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 11.

Everyone is welcome to join us. There will be no school on Friday, Feb. 12 and Monday, Feb. 15 as they are days off for the Family Day long weekend.

Next week, we will be celebrating Shrove Tuesday (a.k.a Mardi Gras) at the parish hall with a pancake lunch, courtesy of parent council and the Knights of Columbus.

Wednesday, Feb. 17 marks the beginning of Lent this year, the forty days before Easter. Father Arlan will be joining us for our Ash Wednesday celebration.

Friday, Feb. 19 will see us hitting the slopes at the Alliance Ski Hill. It looks like the upcoming weeks will be a busy time.

May God bless our endeavours to grow closer to Him in His love.
