All Rumsey curlers return from Drumheller with prizes - Rumsey Record

More snow, rain, wind and some sunshine again, all week. The old adage,” If you don’t like the weather, just wait a few minutes.”

The men curlers in the area were in Drumheller, taking in the farmers’ bonspiel. Good picture of Jim K. in the paper last week. Maybe that was a inspiration to go on the win the bonspiel.

There were four rinks from Rumsey that entered in the bonspiel in Drumheller and each came home with a prize. Good curling, guys.

Jim Krywcun, with his team of Derek, Dallas, (his sons) and Jim Taylor won the first event. Ken Macfarlane’s team won third in the first event. Brook Watts team won second in the third event and Allen Hampton’s team won second in the fourth event.

By the time this paper is out, the annual ladies’ bonspiel in Rumsey will be under way. Remember the oyster supper on Thursday evening at the rink and then the banquet and presentations of awards on Saturday evening.

Many folks took time out of their daily schedules to attend the funeral services for dear friends, Halley Gridley of Big Valley, in Stettler Community Hall on Thursday, Feb. 3, and then on Friday for Bill Raessler of Delia in the Delia Community Hall. Both families are to be commended on the thoughts and planning that went into the services. Both services were graced with music. Halley had the honour of music by the Badlanders of Drumheller, who he has danced to many, many times. Bill was an avid musician, playing guitar, banjo and fiddle with whoever had time to make good music. The old time musicians from the area played music during the service.

Pat and Fred Holowath moved to Trochu to their newly acquired home just before Christmas and the community gathered together monetary greetings for them. In January, on a Sunday afternoon, the Two Valley View Birthday club visited the Holowaths in their new home.

For those folks who are looking for a bull for their herd this coming calving season, Richmond Ranch bull sale is next month.

Congratulations to Carver Johnson and Tracy Bice, who were married at ‘the cabin’ on Saturday, Feb. 5.

A very stormy day kept many folks from attending but the festivities continued in the Rumsey, community hall in the evening with an evening buffet for everyone to enjoy. The community gathered monetary wishes for the happy couple in lieu of a community shower and this was presented to them at their wedding dance on Saturday night. It’s nice to know we have another young couple living in the community. Carver is the only son of Mel and Brenda Johnson and Tracy is a daughter of Kathy and Gordon Sinclair of Trochu.
