After-school programs remain active - Literally Yours

Last week you were introduced to Michelle and Sarah, a new library staff member and library volunteer.

This week the Stettler Public Library welcomes Alexis Carlson and welcomes back Lisa Weaver. Alexis will be running the Friday morning Read and Rhyme Play Time and filling in when needed for other preschool programming. Lisa returns to the Stettler Public Library after completing her diploma in Library and Information Technology with knowledge that she is eager to share. When you see any of our new staff and volunteers about, say hello, introduce yourself and let them know how much you enjoy the Stettler Public Library.

There were hints in last week’s column about the changes coming to Wednesday’s programs. The library can now tell you that there is only one significant change: there is one more program for you to take part in and enjoy on Wednesdays. Starting April 6, Itsy Bitsy Yoga will move from Friday mornings to Wednesday afternoons from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and a second session of Read and Rhyme Play Time will take over Friday’s 10:30 am to noon time slot. That means more fun for you and your preschooler.

With hockey and skating seasons coming to an end, that does not mean that our after-school program, “Something Cool after School”, is ending as well. All school-aged children are welcome to join us on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. for games, crafts and stories. We are now adding an additional day to our “Something Cool after School” program and at a new location. Starting April 8, it will be on Fridays from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Erskine School Library.

The Stettler Public Library is pleased to have the art of Justina Smith gracing our walls. Justina is a visual artist who works in a variety of mediums who was born in Red Deer but currently resides in Edmonton. Her exhibit currently on display here at the library is called “In and out of town” and is a collection of acrylic paintings and new mixed media work. It is a wonderful exhibit at it will be on display until the end of April. You can check out her other pieces at www.justinasmith.com or www.justlittleart.com. You can also take a piece of Justina home with you because all the pieces currently on display are available to be purchased.

Starting Monday, April 4, the Stettler Public Library’s schedule will be as follows: Monday—10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday—10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday—10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday—10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday—10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday—10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and closed on Sundays. This means that the Stettler Public Library is open more hours for your convenience.

The 31st annual Stettler Trade Fair is fast approaching and the Stettler Public Library will be there. Stop by and tell the staff and board members your views on how the library is doing and how it could improve. The library listens to you and can only move forward with your input.
