Aaserud clan converges for milestone celebration

A former Endiang resident, Eleanor Aaserud, enjoyed a two-day birthday celebration at the Hanna Lodge in honour of her 92nd birthday. On June 19 she was joined by her sisters Thelma Keast of Byemoor and May Knowles of Stettler, her sister-in-law Vanita (Wasdal) Mathers of Hanna and her daughters Lynn Anderson of Swift Current, Sask., Irene Brooker of Endiang and Shirley Lumsden and members of her family from Hanna.

Then on June 20 she enjoyed the company of her brother Art and Dot Wasdal of Byemoor and sons Gordie and Roxy Gallagher of Byemoor and their family and Bruce Gallagher, Joyce and Leslie of Endiang. Gordie also celebrated his 64th birthday that day. Best wishes to Eleanor for many more happy birthdays.

The Byemoor 4-H Beef Club held its awards night supper at the Endiang Hall on June 20 with 17 members receiving awards to wrap up another successful year. Maureen Wasdal retired from being an assistant leader for 17 years.

Winnie Paulsen and her daughter Shelly DeMaere of Red Deer enjoyed the Don Williams concert in Edmonton, opened by Charlie Major, on Wednesday.

Congratulations to Will and Crystal Oickle on the birth of their daughter Alexandria Joy-Anne on June 23 at the Daysland hospital. Alexandria weighed 8 lbs. 12 oz. and is a little sister for Dakoda and Jack. Proud grandparents are Rod and Lynnette Schellenberg.

Kim Wasdal and her daughters Jordan and Janelle are home from a holiday to eastern Canada. The trip was in honour of the girls’ recent graduations, Jordan as a pharmacist and Janelle in graphic design. Kim and Janelle spent a week at Niagara Falls and Toronto where they were joined by Jordan and all enjoyed a Toronto Blue Jays game. Then Janelle flew home and Kim and Jordan spent a week touring Nova Scotia, P.E.I and New Brunswick. Congratulations girls on your achievements.

Weekend guests with Lee Hunt and Jim and Maureen Wasdal were Lee’s sister Roseanne and George Reid of Edmonton and niece Carol Kluthe and two girls of California. On Sunday all gathered at Jim and Maureen’s and were joined by other members of the Hunt family, Barb Paetz, Len and Sue Armstrong, Reuben and Wilma Paetkau , Harold Hunt, Mandy Wasdal, and some of their families.

Congratulations to Jeff Wallace on recently completing the course to become a registered EMT.

The Slave Lake fire hit close to home in the fact that the home of Wayne Longshore and his wife was completely destroyed by the fire.

Plans are underway for St. Peter’s Lutheran Church to celebrate its100th anniversary. Originally built in the Wetaskiwin area in 1911 the church was cut in pieces and moved to its present site in 1921. A centennial service will be held on August 13 followed by an old-fashioned church picnic with more details closer to the date.

Hunter Maginn will celebrate his ninth birthday on Canada Day; pretty cool to be sharing your birthday with Canada, Hunter.

Keep in mind the eighth annual Wade Buchwitz Memorial Gymkhana on July 1 at the Endiang Riding and Roping arena starts at 11 a.m. A wiener roast and fireworks will conclude the day.

Of special interest to trivia buffs, this year July has five Fridays, five Saturdays and five Sundays. This happens only once every 823 years.
