“Words, words, words,” complained Eliza Dolittle in My Fair Lady. Away with words! But while she was sick of words, we, at the library, love them.

A library is packed with words, all formed by infinite combinations of twenty-six letters, composed into an endless variety of sentences, strung together into paragraphs, then chapters, and ultimately books containing thousands of words.

Perhaps you, too, love words and long to express yourself in writing. But where do you get ideas?

How do you string together your thoughts in a coherent way to produce something others might want to read? What are the common pitfalls that might make your writing flat and listless?

Find out about the writing journey at our Writing Workshop on Sat, June 10 at 1 p.m. with your friendly neighbourhood award-winning author, yours truly. So, if you’re 18 or older, bring your questions and creativity for an afternoon with words.

Children:

Join us as we make lava boogers just the way a volcano does when it blows its nose on Thu, June 1 at 4 p.m! Something Cool After School will be literally cool on Tue, June 6 when we make ice cream in a bag! On Thu, Jun 8, we’ll explore the marvellous madness of magnifying glasses.

A child’s appetite for storytelling never takes a break, even though parents might get tired of reading to them. Why not bring your little ones (0-5 years) to Read & Rhyme and let someone else tell the stories? We meet Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 10:30 a.m. While you’re here, be sure to sign up for the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program which offers prizes for each 100 books you read to your child.

Kids who code are cool kids! Children ages six and up are welcome to join us for Kids Coding Club, Mon, June 5, at 4 p.m. when we create stories, movies, and games together using Scratch and Scratch Jr. computer programs. Please pre-register.

Teens & ’Tweens:

Make a beach chair, a starfish, or a palm tree…all out of Perler beads. The possibilities are endless on Wed, June 7 at 4:30 p.m.

We’re still offering tutoring for students K-Grade 12 if there’s some sticky concept on which you need individualized help. Appointments are available Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays after school hours, so call today.
