A trip to sunny north

Proud grandparents Vic and Barb Carey enjoyed the weekend cheering on grandson Lincoln Carey and his team in Leduc.

GADSBY/WESTWOODS NEWS -- Proud grandparents Vic and Barb Carey enjoyed the weekend cheering on grandson Lincoln Carey and his team in the Alberta Summer Games Zone 4 football in Leduc. Their team came in fourth overall, Steele Nichols of Gadsby also there on a different team. Mom and dad, Sandy and Dave camped nearby and were there to cheer the team as well. Coaches remarked this was the best games Zone 4 has had since their inception. Congratulations to all the players for a job well done.

Percy and Paulette Heer headed north (into the sunshine) for a week with Percy’s cousins near Bonnyville. While there, they stayed (in their motorhome) with David and Erma Adrian; visited with their family, sons Travis and Lorne and Lorne’s sons Skylar and Wyatt, grandson Kevin and sister-in-law Edith Adrian. Because David and Erma live close to Cold Lake as well, they were able to watch many of the planes practicing for the weekend air show. They were saddened to hear of the pilot whose plane crashed on Sunday.

Percy and Paulette returned home in time to help granddaughter Bailey Heer celebrate her fifth birthday with a BBQ, birthday cake, games, presents. Because she turned five, she was ready to “go to school” Monday; an explanation was needed.

Cody Cassidy did well at the Calgary Stampede, making it to the finals as a wild card and making it to the final four. Although he didn’t have the best time he did well. And in the mud all week, these cowboys are dedicated!

Donna McKay received word that her mother, Anna Donaldson, passed away July 7 in the Harvest Lodge in Fairview, Alberta. Donna motored to Fairview and spent the week there helping her sister Irma, brothers David and Greg. Donna’s son, Father Jim Stenberg flew in for the funeral, staying briefly with Donna at her motel.

The funeral was Wednesday, July 13. Anna lived most of her life in Needlesham, near Fairview. She was 90 years of age. Sincere sympathies to Donna and the family.
