Congratulations to our Big Valley School Grade 9 Graduates: Emily Brown, Bradley Dods, Tianna Kirtley, Anna Lauweryssen and Raina Thomson. We will miss them, but wish them all the best in high school.
As our school year winds down and we reflect on the year, we are reminded how lucky we are to have community support. We would like to thank the following:
Big Valley Store, Big Valley Royal Purple, the Bottle Depot, the Big Valley Legion, Big Valley AG. Society, Big Valley Elks, Big Valley Curling Club, the Big Valley Inn and Catrina Dubitz. Our school is stronger because of the organizations, people and businesses in our community that continuously support us.
The Big Valley Elks’ June meeting was preceded by a very fine pot luck supper consisting of sausages donated by the Websters and by Bill, who purchased some from Bashaw Meats. All were very delicious and thanks to Bill and Helen for the preparation. Several salads, buns and homemade ice cream (by Bill again) topped off the menu. Thanks to all the people who donated their time and food to make this such a success. After the meal, Brother Bill donned his district deputy hat and installed some members to new positions. Our new exalted ruler is Allan Berresford (second term) and we wish him well in his position as our leader.
The Big Valley Elks will be in Trochu on July 1, cooking the Canada Day breakfast. Elks’ Inter Lodge golf dates have been set for Stettler on July 3 at 6 p.m. and Hanna on July 27 at 2 p.m. Any residents who would like to join in, please contact Jake, Bill or Larry Meyer. The Big Valley Inter Lodge Tourney is on July 11 at 2 p.m. If you would like to participate, just be at the Big Valley clubhouse by 1:30 to sign up. There will be a steak BBQ afterwards. Everyone will receive a prize says the organizer.
The club draw was won by Len Currie who donated his share to the Children's Fund. Club 200 winners were Bill Smillie (twice karma) Don de Mos and Barb Knievel for $100. We will now be in summer break and if any urgent issues arrive contact any Elks member or phone Allans Jacobsen or Berresford. Have a great summer, everyone.
Don’t forget the Fifth Annual Kastik Cup is this Saturday, July 4 at the Big Valley Golf Course. Proceeds from this event will go to the Big Valley School and the Big Valley Fire Department.
