2008 - 10 YEARS AGO

- Town and County councillors are given a tour of the new $462,000 fire rescue truck purchased for the Stettler Regional Fire Department, a joint venture between the two councils.

1998 - 20 YEARS AGO

- Nine skaters from the Stettler Figure Skating Club won medals at the Rainbow Edge Central Zone Competition in Drumheller last week. They are: Jessica Mailer, Lisa Short, Julia Grandfield, Jessica Bond, Carley Zimmermann, Cristan Lockhart, Malory O’Malley, Maddie Blundon and Caley Stoutenberg.

1988 - 30 YEARS AGO

- Stettler nurses joined thousands of nurses from across Alberta on Monday in an illegal walkout that sent hospital administrators scrambling and patients packing.

Motivating factors include issues like job benefits and job security.

1978 - 40 YEARS AGO

- A semi-trailer truck jackknifed on the ice on Highway 45 at the golf course in Stettler Friday night and it took three hours to pull it out of the ditch. Some of the new trees on the golf course suffered damage as a result.

1968 - 50 YEARS AGO

- Vicky Wootton and Fred Milner were crowned bowling champions of Stettler following the 12-game city championships held at the Family Recreation Centre over the weekend. Vicky’s average was 227 and Fred’s average was 254.

1958 - 60 YEARS AGO

- Buffalo Lake yielded an oddity in fish last week when a bright yellow fish was pulled from the water. It had a couple of dark spots on it and orange fins.

1948 - 70 YEARS AGO

- An open meeting was called in Halkirk on Monday night to discuss ways and means to building a curling rink.

It was decided to form an organization known at Halkirk Community Curling Rink Association with shares selling at $5 each.

1938 - 80 YEARS AGO

- B.J. Whitebread, Stettler District Agriculturist, announced that the Department of Agriculture has placed in his office a set of de-horners, for loan free of charge to farmers. It is hoped that this service will induce more farmers to take the horns off cattle, especially for those that are to be sent to the stockyards.

1928 - 90 YEARS AGO

- Born to Dr. and Mrs. L.H. Wright, at Mills Hospital, on Friday morning, a daughter, Sarah Ann.

1918 - 100 YEARS AGO

-Stettler’s Citizens Band rehearses three times a week and have made rapid progress in their work. Some 30 well-known men in Stettler have organized and purchased instruments for the 15-member band.

1908 - 110 YEARS AGO

- There are still quite a number of people looking for homesteads and the nice weather we are having is bringing in quite a few new settlers.
