A fitting interment on Father’s Day

Sunday, June 20 is Father’s Day and what better time to celebrate a father’s life. At 2 p.m. on that day, there will be a ceremony of interment of the ashes of the late Don Primrose Sr. at the Rumsey cemetery. Anyone who would care to join all the family are invited to the Rumsey community hall for a time of celebration and fellowship to commemorate the life of this long-lived man. Don passed away last January 25 at the age of 96 after a short stay in hospital in Drumheller. There will be lunch and refreshments at the hall.

Well , now that ‘winter ‘ is over, maybe it will warm and dry up so that the seeding can be completed before it is time to spray crops that are not even up yet.

The Big Valley Elks and Royal Purple lodges held their regular monthly meeting on May 25 with many visitors from Stettler lodge. This month’s meeting is on June 22 and it will be a supper meeting. Cocktails at 6:30 and supper at 7 p.m with the meetings to follow.

The first Wednesday of June is celebrated by the Royal Purple of Canada every year when the lodges host an event for the seniors of the area. The Big Valley Lodge honors their seniors with a noon luncheon in the Jubilee Hall in Big Valley. On Wednesday, June 2, the ladies served a cold-plate lunch with potatoe salad, cabbage coleslaw and cold cuts. The members of the Rumsey Drop-in were guests of the luncheon and are most grateful to the lodge for the delicious meal. Of course, the meal was concluded with strawberry shortcake as per ritual.

Although it is warranted that they be closer to their doctors and such, we will miss them in the community. A list of good wishes has been started at the post office and anyone wishing to be on that list can contact Carrie.
