The Halkirk Hicks 4-H rodeo club held their club level public speaking competition on February 28. Medal winners in the junior class were Madelyn Schauer with gold; Logan Spady, silver and Katelyn Dahmer, bronze. In the intermediate class, Sonya Marquart received gold; Jacey Gamroth, silver and Seth Neufeld, bronze. Elliott Mabbott received gold, Alison Dahmer, silver and Luke Nibourg, bronze in the senior division. The top two in each category qualified to go to semi-districts in Coronation on March 7. Jacey Gamroth then qualified for district competition in Coronation on March 14. Congratulations to all the members.
Last weekend a team of eight Nancy Greene skiers from the Valley club competed in the Jasper Junior Olympics. This was a two day event with the individuals event on Saturday and the team event on Sunday. None of our group placed on the first day, however on Sunday the Valley Ski Club took home the trophy for first place. The team was very proud and excited.
Several from our area attended the Castor hall opening on Friday. The cadets were there in full uniform and had the opportunity to have a group photo with Premier Ed Stelmach. The program was followed by a beef on a bun supper. Congratulations to Castor and area, it is a very, very nice hall; the management, building and fundraising committees have done a great job.
The Halkirk seniors are having a cash raffle and tickets are throughout the town. Please remember your down payments for the upgrade books of “Halkirk Homefires”.
Irene Schilling had Benny’s brother Carl and Linda from Big Valley visiting with her. On Sunday, Irene went to see the newest addition to the Schilling family in Wainwright.
Jan and Rose Koenraadt went to Wainwright to visit with Rose’s sister Jean and Dennis Kile.
There will be two Easter Bingos coming up, first one on March 25 and the second on April 1. Both are at 7:30pm.
