The Byemoor Bull-a-rama took on an international flavour Saturday, with six contestants from New Zealand, Australia and Mexico in the lineup.
Josh Birks of Australia was crowned the champion bull-rider in front of a full-house crowd at the Endmoor Arena.
He won the cash purse and the championship jacket.
The 19th annual Byemoor Bull-a-rama is billed as “the longest-running bull-only event of its kind in Canada.”
Canadian cowboys entered from B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
It was a tie after the long-go between Birks and Edgar Durazo from Sonora, Mexico.
The top eight cowboys from the 34 riders advanced to the short-go.
Birks scored 85.5 points on a bull named Road Rage.
Beau Brooks rode Scare Tactic for 81 points.
Chase Theilen came close with a strong ride on Joe Smoe for 84 points.
A string of buck-offs left Durazo with the last ride of the night. He needed 86 points to win, but fell just short.
Stock contractor Outlawbuckers Rodeo Corporation supplied the bulls.
