The Stettler Recreation Centre was bustling over the weekend as Stettler Minor Lacrosse Association hosted 11 Tyke teams on Saturday, June 10 and 10 Mini Tyke teams on Sunday, June 11.
The 11 Tyke teams had approximately 140 players, between the ages of five and seven, according to Coach Kim Smyth.
“They got to take their pictures with the dinosaurs who had taken over the Rec Centre and everyone came away with a commemorative dog tag celebrating the day,” said Smyth. “The Stettler Thunder Tykes have had a great season this year with vast improvement shown in each and every player, and our coaching staff was a dedicated bunch of parents who stepped up to help.”
On Sunday, June 11, the Mini Tykes hit town.
“The Mini Tykes were a mighty contingent with 10 teams, equaling just over 90 three, four and five-year olds tearing up the floor!” Smyth added. “No scores were kept but each kid knows how awesome they did.”
Stettler Novice played host to Red Deer, posting a win on the score board, while the Peewee Thunder took a loss from Red Deer 2 team and the Bantams were defeated in a 9-2 game vs. Innisfail.
The Tyke and Mini Tyke season is now completed, other than a couple of wind-up events.
Next weekend, June 17 and June 18, Stettler will be hosting the Central Alberta Lacrosse League’s Novice playoffs and championships.
Team Alberta Midget Girls will be hosting a couple of exhibition games – Saturday at 5 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m.
