As Team Canada made it to the top three and finally won bronze at the 2016 NASP All Nation All-Star Championship in South Africa, Stettler's Jessa Heatherington was able to be a part of that accomplishment with one of the highest Canadian scores of the tournament — 294/300.

Team Canada made it through the first round into the top three, but was eliminated in the second round.

The tournament ran differently this year from last year. In 2015, all of the archers shot one round and were then seeded into four smaller teams, but this year all archers shot three full rounds on day one. Based on day one results, archers were split into the top and bottom eight.

Heatherington made it to the top eight, leaving Team Canada to compete against Zimbabwe, South Africa, Namibia and the United States on the following day.

The individual scores were taken from the first three scoring rounds, with Heatherington's score being 860/900.

"It was definitely not my personal best, but it was pretty cool that not my best ever was still good enough to score fourth overall," said Heatherington. "In comparison to last year's scores, I have improved drastically."

Heatherington recalled that last year, the fact that other teams had kids shooting over 290/300 was "insane" to her. This year, she did it herself.

"I was happy with myself because I had never done so well in a tournament before," Heatherington reflected. "It took me a while to actually realize the growth that I have had through archery this year. Being the only Stettler archer on the team this year was kind of intimidating, but I knew some of my teammates from last year so it really wasn't bad at all."

According to Heatherington, meeting people is something that she struggles with, so the fact that she didn't have anyone to fall back on as "that one person I know" was good for her.

"I made so many more friends this year in comparison to last year," she said. "It was very difficult to leave them all."

Will Roberts, Brooke Glasier and Colby Barclay were the other Stettler archers invited to be on the team, but they turned down the offer.
