Stettler’s lacrosse teams were busy over the weekend, with the Stettler Thunder Bantam team playing two home games and the PeeWee and Novice teams playing one game each.

The Bantam team was unsuccessful in their game against the Lacoka Locos on Friday, May 5 as well as their game against the Blackfalds Warriors on Saturday, May 6.

Despite the results, Bantam Head Coach Terry MacPherson commented that the team has been performing well lately.

“We had a tough start to the year but things are starting to look up,” MacPherson said. “We’ve had some new kids and they’re all coming along really well.”

MacPherson also noted that the team has been getting some good practices in as they prepare for their next games this weekend on May 12 and 13.

The team also has a new coach on staff, Austin Hodinsky, who has a lot to offer to the organization.

“The boys are starting to learn some plays from our new coach Austin,” MacPherson said. “We’re excited about what he brings to our association and we can’t wait to see how the boys respond.”

Stettler Thunder Bantam will play the Red Deer Chiefs Bantam B2 team in Red Deer on Friday night, May 12, and their next home game will be against the Sylvan Lake Buccaneers on Saturday afternoon, May 13 at the Stettler Recreation Centre (SRC).

PeeWee and novice teams take on Lacoka at home

Saturday afternoon also saw Stettler Thunder PeeWee face off against the Lacoka Locos PeeWee team at the SRC.

The Stettler team came up short in the end, but they are looking forward to their next home game against Innisfail on Friday night, May 12.

Then on Sunday afternoon, May 7, Stettler Thunder Novice faced off against the Lacoka Locos Novice team and walked away with a 10 to 3 victory.

This win built on the momentum the team began last week with their victory over the Innisfail Phantoms.

The Novice team has been performing well this year with three wins and two losses so far throughout the season.

The next Novice game will be at the SRC on Saturday, May 13 at noon against the Sylvan Lake Buccaneers.
