SIMON - Winnifred Freida passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sept. 27, 2008, at Heritage House, Stettler Hospital, at the age of 90. She will be fondly remembered and missed by her six children: Barbara (Reynie) Lutz of Innisfail, AB, Jack (Elaine) Simon of Stettler, AB, Judy Lackey of Fort Saskatchewan, AB, Pat (Chip) de Witt of Seattle, WA, Joyce (Bob) Garneau of Spruce Grove, AB and June (Rick) Taskey of St. Albert, AB; also her 11 grandchildren: Pam (Eric) Amulaku, Karen Lutz, Jacqueline (Jez) Littlewood, Jeff (Tricia) Simon, Neil Simon (fiance Megan Roden), Mark Lackey, Chris de Witt, Matt and Stephan Garneau and Erin and Heather Taskey; as well as one great-grandchild Simon Littlewood; two sisters-in-law Marguerite Baugh and Mabel Simon and many other relatives and friends. Winnifred was predeceased by her loving husband Kenneth Simon on July 26, 1998, as well as her brothers Jim and Glen Baugh and sister Dorothy Annable. She was born in Pollockville, AB on Aug. 16, 1918, the youngest child of Percy and Eva Baugh. After moving to the Stettler area and completing school, Winnifred was a school teacher, bank teller, and World War II Royal Canadian Air Force veteran. She married Ken Simon on April 9, 1947, and they had six children within the following six years (including two sets of twins). She was a longtime member of the Stettler United Church. Winnifred will be remembered as a very caring mother and grandmother who freely shared her talents and treats with family and friends - mostly notably tailoring entire wardrobes of clothing and always having fresh “Grandma Winnie buns” ready for visitors. Funeral service will be held at the Stettler United Church on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008 at 2 p.m. with Rev. David Denholm officiating. Following the interment in the Lake View Cemetery, a reception and fellowship will take place in the C.E Wing of the Stettler United Church.
