SHEWCHUK - It is with great sadness that we say farewell to Robert Daniel Shewchuk. Rob fought a brave battle and proved his tremendous strength and will power until the end on Dec. 6, 2008 at the young age of 35. He was born in Edmonton, AB on Oct. 3, 1973. At the age of 16 he battled a brain tumor and after many months of recovery, pulled through and proved to us all he had will and determination. In 2006 Rob suffered his first stroke that left him with cognitive disabilities, but with his nieces Kristen and Danielle, he started reading Dr. Seuss books with them. He was released from hospital two months later with outpatient therapy. On Nov. 8, 2008 Rob suffered his second stroke which left him physically disabled and the good Lord took him to be at his side where he would suffer no more pain. Rob was a devoted son, brother and uncle who never put himself first. He leaves behind his mother Charlene Wells and stepfather Ernie Dhenin; father Dan Shewchuk and stepmother Peggy Shewchuk; sister Nicole Wells (Josh Smith); nieces Kristen and Danielle Beer; grandparents Bill and Marjorie Wells; devoted long time friend Tracy and Amber Everett and their children Zach and Sierra who considered Rob their uncle; aunts and uncles: Duncan (Boney), Ken (Marjie), Kim (Shannon), Dale (Darlene), Karen (Casey), Jean Clayton, Angie Thomas, Shirley (Eric) Mayeske; as well as many other long time friends and family. A special thank you to the nursing staff at Lacombe Hospital and Unit 33 nursing staff at the RDRH.

A funeral service was held Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008 at the Heartland Chapel of Stettler Funeral Home. Rev. Mervyn Penfound officiating. Nicole Wells gave a loving tribute of Robbie’s life to those in attendance. Robbie was laid to rest at Lake View Cemetery, Stettler, AB with pallbearers being Steve Ogi, Tracy Everett, Jamie Ferber, Casey Werney, Shelly Grover, Michael Wells, Dave Harnaka and Scott Wells.
