LAAK

Richard George

Feb. 6, 1951 - July 17, 2016

Rick had a short but brave fight against cancer ending at Red Deer Hospice. His passing was peaceful with daughter Jayme and best friends Jack and Yvette by his side. Rick was born in Calgary and loved his life with his parents and sister on "Laak's Green Acres" where he lived the country life, eventually bringing him full circle back to Alberta in adulthood. His adventurous spirit took him around the world and included many hobbies such as flying planes, camping, as well as fiercely loving the Boston Bruins and Calgary Stampeders. In the late '80s Rick purchased the Byemoor Hotel and built it into a successful business. His move back to Victoria in 1992 produced two new loves: his Harley and a sister for daughter Karlee. In 2000 Rick and Jayme settled in Byemoor, where he started his work in the oilfield industry, ending it with Husky Energy.

Rick is survived by daughters Jayme, Karlee (Halim), sister Penny (Dick), niece Jodi (Brian), great-nephews Jaden and Phoenix, nephew Jason (Amber), and great-nephew Cody. Also survived by his Alberta family who meant the world to him, Jill (Les), Jack and Yvette, Cam and family, Jonathan and family, Ashley, Mike, and "almost" grandson Elias.

A celebration of Rick's life will be held at the Byemoor Community Hall on August 5 at 2 p.m.

A donation to Red Deer Hospice can be made in lieu of flowers.
