Lyle Albert Cassidy was born September 22, 1949 in Stettler, Alberta and passed on August 20th, 2017 with his family by his side. He was the eighth child of Tom and Viv Cassidy. Lyle lived his entire life in the town of Stettler and attended William E. Hay High School. There he met the love of his life, Gayle Ollive; they were married in 1967 and began their family. Together they established a beautiful home and raised four children: Carrie, Jodi, Patrick and Dorn.

A journeyman carpenter, Lyle completed his apprenticeship training at SAIT in Calgary and then returned to Stettler to practice his trade. He established Cassidy Construction in 1972 and there is proof of his labour of love on every corner of town and every country road in the homes he built and the friends he made. For the past 31 years, Lyle was involved with the Stettler Feeders Association and he proudly continued this work through his entire battle with cancer.

As the youngest of the Cassidy boys, Lyle was introduced to many sports. He played hockey with his brothers on the Stettler Trojans and Sabres. Calf roping and calf horses were his passions. Lyle's indoor arena was the cowboy drop-in centre for most of Alberta and countless hours were spent there with people who shared his love of the sport. Gayle introduced him to the game of golf and it became a shared past-time. Palm Springs was a second home where family and friends enjoyed much quality time. He passed his love of sports on to his children and grandchildren.

Family and home were Lyle's first priorities. He was extremely proud of his kids and was quick to brag about his amazing grandchildren and their many talents. Toward the end of Lyle's life, The Quarter was a sanctuary for both him and Gayle where friends and family gathered to share drinks, stories and many good times.

Lyle is survived by his loving wife of fifty years, Gayle, his children Carrie Cassidy, her children Breck, Cutler, and Gage; Jodi (Cy) Davidson and their children Jeff (Ashley), Jordan (Emily), and Jaycee; Patrick (Lorraine) Cassidy and their daughter Marin; and Dorn (Courtney) Cassidy and their children Ryker, Vivienne, Kitt and Keltie. Lyle also leaves to mourn his brothers Al (Stella), Charlie (Aleta), Frank (Carline), Bill, and sister in-law Gwen as well as his mother in-law Mae Ollive, and sisters and brothers in-law Bruce (Connie) Ollive, Kathy (Terry) Andersen, Wayne Ollive and Wendy (Donovan) Davidson and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and family. Lyle was predeceased by his parents Tom and Viv Cassidy, sister Joyce Mailer, brothers John, Terrence (Ned), Leonard (Buzz) Cassidy, brother in-law Herb Ollive, sister in-law Nancy Cassidy, and nieces Terra and Kristin Mailer.

A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 on Wednesday, August 30th at the Stettler Community Centre. Memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Mesothelioma Foundation www.cmfonline.org. Arrangements care of Stettler Funeral Home.
