John Cameron "Cam"

John Cameron "Cam" McNeill passed away at the Stettler Hospital & Care Centre after a courageous battle with cancer on Thursday, June 29, 2017 at the age of 64 years.

John Cameron McNeill, better known as Cam, was born in Stettler on May 8, 1953, the fourth and youngest son of Bob and Marj McNeill. Cam grew up in Erskine, attending the Erskine School and then Wm E Hay Composite High School in Stettler. While in school, he played the trom-bone in the Stettler Community Band. Cam worked at many jobs after high school, including the Stettler Seed Cleaning Plant, Canada Dry bottling plant in Edmonton, concrete construction, insulating, sand blasting and spray painting. He obtained his painting Journeyman Certificate at NAIT in Edmonton and ran the paint shop at the Nevis Gulf plant for a number of years until the plant was downsized. Cam loved to travel, and in his younger years he visited Hawaii, Great Britain and Europe, as well as Eastern Canada and a large part of the U.S.

Left to mourn his loss is his partner Sandra Steele, and her sons Chuck (Becky) and Jeff, as well as grandchildren Anais, Taven, Kenisha, Layton and Caridee Steele. Cam is also survived by brothers Duncan (Marleen) and Greg (Gailan), sister in law Lynne McNeill, his nieces and nephews and their families, Sandra's siblings and many cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Bob and Marj McNeill and brother Royce McNeill.

A celebration of Cam's life was held on Saturday, July 7, 2017 at the Erskine Evangelical Free Church with Rev. Ross Helgeton officiating. Honorary Pallbearers were Cliff Williams, Gary Weiser, Lonnie Landry, Dave Reinbold, Frank Nibourg, Ed Garret, Bill Dyer and Wayne Duquette. Cam was laid to rest at the Erskine Cemetery earlier in the morning.
