SISSONS – It is with great sadness that the family of Mrs. Iris D. Sissons announce her passing at the Drayton Valley Continuing Care Centre, Drayton Valley on Wednesday, June 4, 2008 at the age of 91 years. Iris came with her husband and young son from England in 1940. She resided on the family farm south of Alix, AB until 1990 then moved to Drayton Valley, AB. Iris was interested in the running of the family farm, coal mines and gravel pit. She was the foundation of the family until her sons took over the operations. Iris traveled extensively to England, taking each of her grandchildren to where she was raised and to meet family there. She spent winters in Mesa, AZ for 18 years, where she made numerous long time friends. Iris is survived by a son, Eric (Gail) Sissons of Red Deer, AB, a daughter, Joy (Dale) Warren of Drayton Valley, seven grandchildren, Kimberly (Michael) Wall, Nicole Sissons (Mario Sauve), Tanya Warren, Craig (Trina) Warren, Wayne (Leeanne) Sissons, Murray (Hetty) Sissons, Trina (Rob) Roden, a daughter-in-law, Twyla (Gerard) Janssens, 11 great-grandchildren and a step-sister, Fay of England. She was predeceased by her husband, Clive Sissons in 1967, a son, Edward Sissons in 1998, three sisters, Connie, Vivian, Blanche and a stepbrother, Peter all of England. A memorial service was held at Eventide Funeral Chapels, 4820-45 Street, Red Deer on Saturday, June 21, 2008 at 12 p.m. Cremation entrusted to Central Alberta Crematorium. Memorial donations in Iris’ honour may be made directly to the Lou Gehrigs Disease Society of Northern Alberta, 8503-171 Street, Edmonton, AB, T5T 0C7.
