HANSEN, Harvey Russell
June 24, 1941- June 16, 2017
It is with great sadness and heartache that we announce the passing of a loving father, grandfather and great-grand-father.
On June 24, 1941, Harvey was born to Mildred (Milly) and Russell Hansen. Harvey was born and raised with his three older sisters in Stettler. At the age of sixteen, Harvey started working on the rigs.
In Stettler, on November 14, 1969, at the United Church, Harvey married the love of his life, Darlene MacDonald. He would work rigs in the winter and as a farm hand during spring break-up. Not ever was his family not cared for. Harvey’s rig work took the family in many directions. In 1970, Harvey moved his still growing family to Nova Scotia. Harvey’s life took on more changes as he worked in Inuvik for many years, then on to Oklahoma, with Darlene, Rob and Rick in tow. When Harvey and Darlene moved back to Oklahoma, they headed to Ponoka and bought a home in Morning Meadows where they lived for seventeen years. Harvey, at the time, had another move on the horizon. Harvey and Darlene bought their dream home and farm, Harvey then worked in Africa for twelve years. He started raising paint horses and morgan horses, and at one point, long horn cattle. But again Harvey got antsy and got a job on a dairy farm close to home.
He enjoyed family visits and watching his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren grow. Then it was time for Harvey and Darlene to move once again. They moved into town where they enjoyed meeting friends at coffee time, and just resting. Harvey met a lot of people in his years. Rig hands and anyone else who worked alongside Harvey never had a bad thing to say about him. Now that was a humble and kind man!
Harvey was predeceased by his parents Milly and Russell Hansen, sister Phyllis (Smith), granddaughters – Amy Darlene Hansen and Shaylyn Morgan Hansen.
Harvey will be greatly missed by his 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren, and all who knew him.
At Harvey’s passing, he was surrounded by his loving wife – Darlene, and his six children – Kelly, Tracy, Tammy, Shelley, Rob and Rick.
At Harvey’s request there will be no service. A private interment and memorial will be held in Ponoka for the family.
To Harvey’s friends, he wishes them to remember him as he was. Thank you!
