LONG

Harry Howard Long passed away on June 29, 2017 at the age of 88. He was predeceased by his loving wife Millie. He leaves to mourn his children, Cheryl (Barry) Knight, Greg (Darlene) Long, Stephen (Dale) Long, David (Dixie) Long; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and extended family.

Harry was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba to Gwen and Jim Long. He grew up, graduated with a degree in Agriculture and worked in the cattle industry. Dad and Mom were married October 16, 1953 and raised their children in Edmonton and Stettler. His friends would tell you he was a man of learning and quick with a joke. Throughout his life, Harry was an active volunteer: providing service as a Town Counsellor in Stettler; Board Member for Telford House in Leduc, and the driving force behind the Commemorative First Special Service Force Memorial Highway out of Lethbridge to the border. He was a member of the Alberta Seniors Advisory Council and recognized as Senior Citizen of the Year for the City of Leduc for his various contributions to that community.

Our thanks go out to Dr. Jonker, Dr. Shukkoor and their staff for their thoughtful and caring service. We are also grateful to the St. Michaels Health Centre for making the last months of his life comfortable. A special thank you to the Bridges Program. Dad felt a special bond with you; you always made him happy to visit.

As per Harry's wishes there will not be a memorial or funeral. Should you so wish, donations are welcome to go to St. Michael's Hospital, Lethbridge (Bridges Program) via St. Michael's Health Centre Foundation, 1400 9 Ave South, Lethbridge AB T1J 4V5. Send condolences: www.evergreenfh.ca
