HARRY GONDA

GONDA – Harry Joseph Gonda passed away suddenly at his farm near Halkirk, AB on Thursday, April 10, 2008. Harry was born in Castor, AB on March 8, 1948 to John and Lillian Gonda, the sixth of ten children. He attended school in Halkirk until completing Grade 10. Harry stayed at home and helped to keep the farm going for his family. In 1966, Harry went to work at a carpentry shop in Red Deer, AB. Harry then returned back to the farm. In 1975 he met the love of his life, Dianne Nelson of Stettler, AB. They were married on Nov. 12, 1977 and to this union two sons were born; Brian Douglas on May 13, 1979, Mother’s Day, of which Harry was very proud, and Dale Allan on June 20, 1981, Father’s Day. Harry was very proud of him as well, for on April 19 of 2008 he is to receive an award from Precision Drilling. On June 9, 2005 his first granddaughter, Sage Dianne, was born, the apple of his eye; his second granddaughter, Casey Jean, was born on March 11, 2008, another precious little angel. Harry enjoyed fishing at his favorite fishing hole Boelke’s Pond, camping, and playing his guitar around the campfire. He also enjoyed many hunting trips around home and out west with family and friends. He had his own carpentry business, which had become a great success. Harry is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Dianne; two sons Brian (Sandra) of Tees, AB, and Dale (Mandy) and two granddaughters, Sage and Casey, of Halkirk. He is also survived by one brother, Bob (Nora) Gonda of Joffre, AB; five sisters, Ann Bennett of Edmonton, AB, Laura (Ed) Harrison of Red Deer; Judy Gonda of Red Deer; Bernadette (Rick) Schofer of Stettler; Yvette Sauve of Red Deer; and sister-in-law Joanne (Dean) of Halkirk; his mother-in-law Alice Nelson; sister-in-law Darlene (Al) Campbell, and brother-in-law Dennis (Charlene) Nelson. Harry was predeceased by his parents John and Lillian; one brother John Jr., and nephews Rudy Bartlett and Jody Bartlett. He is also predeceased by his father-in-law Carl Nelson. He will be greatly missed by numerous nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart, as well as a host of extended family and friends. The interment took place in the Halkirk Cemetery. Greg Bossert, Cody Gonda, Charlie Poulton, Jennel Schofer, Jim Gonda, Jessie Connon served as pallbearers. A memorial luncheon was held in the Halkirk Community Hall at 12 noon on Tuesday, April 15, 2008. Should friends desire memorial contributions may be made in Harry’s memory to the Halkirk Cemetery or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
