SZIGETY, Allen - 1943 - 2008

Allen Szigety passed away the morning of Aug. 13, 2008 in Stettler, AB after a courageous battle with Crohn’s Disease. Al was 64 years of age. He is survived by his three children Andy (Sue) Szigety, Clint (Kim) Szigety and Joy Szigety (Shayne Jones) and their loving mother Hazel Szigety. His three grandchildren Brenden Szigety, Cameron Szigety and Jaxton Jones. His sisters and brothers Judy, Yvonne, Chuck, Jim, Danny, Larry and Mike. Allen is also survived by many more loving family members and a host of friends. Al was born on Dec. 18, 1943 in Kincade, SK. He attended Wideview School located two miles west and eight miles south of Mankota. Al finished school in Grade 8 and at the age of 15 became a farm-hand. At the age of 19, Al took over the family farm and stayed there for one year. Then at the age of 20, Al began working on the oil rigs which he did for the next 30 years. He then took over a liquor store in Alix, AB and eventually built, owned and managed Aljoy Liquor Store in Stettler. Allen was an extremely hard working man. He was intelligent yet simple in his way of life. Allen enjoyed activities such as camping, visiting with friends and relatives and playing cards. Al was always there for his children when they needed advice, financial aide or any type of help. When eating out you would be guaranteed that Al would be the one to pick up the tab. Allen took pride and found much joy in his children and grandchildren. His face would light up when a little one would come to visit and he always had some type of treat for them. Al also had a soft spot in his heart for animals. It did not matter if it was a pet or wildlife he always found a way to interact with it. Allen Szigety - a father, grandfather and friend. He will be greatly missed and remain alive in our hearts forever. At Al’s request, a private family ceremony has taken place. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation in care of Brennen Funeral Home (2001) Ltd., P.O.
