The Town of Stettler’s assistant chief administrative officer (ACAO) has left the building.

ACAO Steve Gerlitz has retired following a career spanning 35 years in municipal government, the last decade of which was at the Town of Stettler.

Gerlitz returned to his home community, having been born and raised in Stettler, following a career that has taken him to Stettler, Paintearth and Camrose Counties.

“From the moment Steve started with the Town, his impact was felt - whether it was his approach to making our budgets easy to understand, his commitment to keeping Council and the public informed, or his infinite knowledge of all things numbers,” said Mayor Sean Nolls, via a media release.

“When he speaks, people tend to listen because his words are often wise or humorous, if not both. Steve is an adamant professional, but working with him was like working with family. Myself, Council, and the entire organization will miss working with our friend.”

Gerlitz is appreciative that he was able to finish his career in his hometown.

“I’ll never forget the experiences I had working here and to watch the town, my home, grow. I’m going to miss it a lot,” said Gerlitz.

Kim Hymers, the Town of Stettler’s former manager of financial services, will replace Gerlitz in the role of ACAO.
