Stettler Mayor Dick Richards recoils from the shock as he is drenched with cold water on Monday evening. The mayor was taking part in the Ice Bucket Challenge, a fundraiser for ALS research that has attracted thousands of participants.
Richards was nominated by both Lynda Wainwright, who runs The Co-operators insurance firm in Wainwright, and the staff of the Stettler Independent. In turn, he nominated Drumheller-Stettler MLA Rick Strankman, Crowfoot MP Kevin Sorenson and Stettler County Reeve Wayne Nixon.
The Stettler Regional Fire Department volunteered the use of its truck and ladder, operated by regional deputy fire chief Etienne Brugman and regional fire chief Mark Dennis.
