The men’s bonspiel wrapped up this weekend with a good crowd for supper. The Country Cookers outdid themselves once again with a delicious meal so a big thank you to them for helping out the Ag Society at every bonspiel. There were 15 teams entered in the bonspiel this year which is a little down from last year and that odd number was certainly a challenge for our draw master, Jackie Watts, as she tried to balance out the games. Thanks again to Brooks and Jackie for taking entries to all the bonspiels and doing up the draws.

The results of the bonspiel are as follows: first in the 1st event went to the Derek Krywcum team beating out the Tim Primrose team. Thank you to Hodge Brothers Trucking for sponsoring the first event. The 3rd in the first event went to the Al Gorman team and 4th went to Kent Holowath’s team. In the second event; the first slot went to Brighton Watts’s team leaving Kevin Helmers’ team from Trochu in second spot. Third in the second event was won by Barry Kaiser and his curlers with fourth going to Leo Johnson’s team from Delia. Thank you to Peterson’s Auto Body from Trochu for sponsoring this event. The third event, sponsored by CPS in Trochu, was won by Al Hampton and his team putting Rob Davidson’s team in to second spot. Third spot went to Tom McCrindle and his crew form Byemoor and fourth place taken by Justin Wolf’s team. The Rumsey Ag Society would like to thank all of our sponsors, volunteers and especially all the curlers for making our bonspiels so successful, it is greatly appreciated.

The next event up for the Rumsey Ag. Society will be the Ladies bonspiel running from February 7 to 10, the Mixed Double will follow on February 22 to 24 then the season will wrap up with the Mixed Bonspiel on March 4 to 10. Brooks and Jackie Watts welcome all entries so give them a call at 403-368-2357. If you happen to be an avid spectator of the sport, come and join us each evening at the rink, enjoy a homemade meal from the concession, oyster night on Thursday night and the banquet is open to everyone so lots of chance to enjoy a good meal and a good game of curling.

Have a most enjoyable week:

A crumbling old church building needed remodeling, so, during his sermon, the preacher made an impassioned appeal looking directly at the richest man in town. At the end of the sermon, the rich man stood up and announced, “Pastor, I will contribute $1,000.”

Just then, plaster fell from the ceiling and struck the rich man on the shoulder.

He promptly stood back up and shouted, “Pastor, I will increase my donation to $5,000.”

Before he could sit back down, plaster fell on him again, and again he virtually screamed, “Pastor, I will double my last pledge. “He sat down, and a larger chunk of plaster fell on his head.

He stood up once more and hollered, “Pastor, I will give $20,000!”

This prompted a deacon to shout, “Hit him again, Lord! Hit him again!”
