Two people are dead following a head-on collision last Friday, Aug. 26.

Around 2 p.m., Stettler RCMP, Stettler Regional Fire and Rescue and Stettler EMS were dispatched to the two-vehicle collision on Highway 12, between Stettler and Erskine.

The driver of one of the two vehicles was declared dead at the scene, and the passenger of the vehicle died of their injuries a short time later, police said. According to Sgt. Phil Penny, the occupants of the vehicle were not from the Stettler area, and while next of kin has been notified, the identities of the victims will not be released.

The driver of the second vehicle was taken to Stettler Hospital and Care Centre for treatment for minor injuries before being released. The driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

Sgt. Penny said alcohol and drugs are not believed to have been a factor in the collision. The investigation continues and charges may be considered after the investigation is complete, he added.

Police seek brazen shoplifters

Two shoplifters who stole clothes from John’s Menswear in downtown Stettler in early July are still on the run, and police are hoping surveillance photos will help identify the two suspects.

The two women were captured on surveillance taking the stolen items into change rooms, concealing the clothes on their persons, and leaving without paying for the items around 2 p.m. on July 11.

If anyone can identify the two women, or have information about this or any other crimes, they can phone the Stettler RCMP at 403-742-3382, or anonymously phone Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
