Congratulations and happy anniversary to Gordon and Shirley Reynolds whose family held an open house on Saturday to celebrate their 60th Wedding Anniversary. The event was held in the family room, at Spruce Terrace where they make their home. Friends and family gathered for an afternoon of tea and coffee, and lunch served by daughter Kathy and Tim, daughter - in law Karen and family and sister Margaret Connon. Also joining them was Gordie’s brother Glen Reynolds.

Bill and Joyce Hansel, along with Jean Schell joined the party on Saturday, having enjoyed dinner out first.

CTV news produced and aired a short segment featuring our own Cody Cassidy on Monday, January 15, speaking on behalf of the future of CORRECTED CFR in Alberta. Cody honored Edmonton and Northlands as a great memory of 44 years. “We need to grow the sport” was his most important quote of the day. And… a few short days later we are celebrating the announcement that the CFR is coming to Red Deer, having signed a 10-year contract there!

The Village of Gadsby has set up a book exchange station at the office and would like to invite anyone interested to participate, whether dropping off or picking up a book. Stop in during office hours Wednesdays to check on this. Also the village office has copies of the Seniors Property Tax Deferral program info guide available for pickup.

After nearly 50 years, Percy Heer and his sister Dale have reconnected with their cousin Johnny Heer (son of the late John and Mary Heer). Johnny has been living in B.C. until recently and since the death of his mother, has moved back to Red Deer. Percy and Paulette hosted a dinner on Saturday, January 20. Leo and Lisette Reimche of Clive brought Johnny out for the day. They looked at old pictures of family and friends, reminisced about “the old days” in and around Gadsby. Dale Van Straten joining them for the day.

It was cousins day on Saturday when Bridget Skocdopole, Jasmine Diegel and Sophie Diegel were all on the basketball court at the same time to help their team win the basketball tournament in Stettler. Prior to Saturday, they played Clive on Friday, Clive on Saturday and Blackfalls, before the final game with Lacombe, winning the tournament. Way to go team!

It is with great sadness that we hear of the passing of Ronald Schwarzenberger this week. Ronald farmed the family farm south of Gadsby/Botha, living in the house his grandfather built. He and Pat raised three children, helped in the community (Pat remembered for helping start the hot lunch program in Gadsby). Ronald’s pride and joy were his children and grandchildren. He loved to go to their sports events, take in a hockey game, and visit with friends and neighbours. He will be truly missed. Sincere sympathies to his children, Alex (Trish) and family, Shaunna (Pat) and family, Grant (Anita) and family, sisters Fern and Kathleen and their families. A memorial tea will be held at a later date, “when the grass is green”. Ronald was 77 years of age.
