Around 80 members of Stettler’s older generation were on hand in the Hub on Nov. 22 for a special event.
Sponsored by Stettler Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) and funded through the New Horizens Grant for Seniors program, the Senior’s Empowerment program brought a full day of dedicated programming to the 78 people in attendance.
The day featured a free meal, entertainment by the Charms and a variety of guest speakers including the Stettler RCMP detachment commander, Staff Sgt. Bruce Holliday, the coordinator with the Stettler Society for the Prevention of Family Violence, Judy Beebe, and Alberta Health Services dietician Karen Olafson.
During his time, Staff Sgt. Holliday spoke about the different types of scams currently making the rounds and precautions individuals can do to keep themselves safe from them.
Beebe’s time was dedicated to a discussion on elder abuse and what someone can do to help if they suspect, or help prevent it from occuring in the first place.
Olafson discussed staying healthy and strong while providing tips and tricks for eating healthy.
The Charms, Denis and Meg Dufresne, performed Canadiana vocal and instrumental music.
“Denis and Meg … gave a wonderful musical performance for our community members,” said Sheree Yakelashek, the community engagement coordinator for Stetter FCSS.
