Big Valley looking forward to annual Oyster Feed

The Big Valley Elk’s January meeting began with the public reading of thank you letters sent in from recipients of the organization’s assistance. The membership sincerely appreciates the recognition and would like to pass on a “hats off” to the whole Big Valley community, whose strong support helps enable their charitable efforts. A disbursement was awarded to the Morrin Arena fundraiser.

Upcoming events in Big Valley include the annual Oyster Feed and Past ER night on Tuesday, Mar. 27, which will include a visit from District Deputy Dale Kent and the District meeting which is scheduled for Saturday, Apr. 7.

Eleven players came out for crib at the Big Valley Inn on Sunday, Jan. 28. Dale Kobi took first place, Teresa Greig took second and Ross Annable took third. Stan Nattestad went home with the booby and Mary Wilkie won the regular draw. The Big Valley Inn Crib players meet every Sunday at 1 p.m. Everyone is welcome.

The Big Valley E Free Church will hold their monthly luncheon for area seniors at the church on Monday, Feb. 5 at 12 noon. All seniors are welcome.

The Drop In Centre’s next community pancake supper is schedule for Feb, 13 beginning at 5:30 p.m. This supper will be sponsored by the Big Valley United Church. Everyone is welcome.

The Friends of the Big Valley Library have scheduled their first meeting of 2018 for Thursday, Feb 15 at the library beginning at 2 p.m.

Alberta Health Services is holding a free educational workshop at the Big Valley Train Station on Thursday, Feb. 15 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. This workshop is for anyone who would like to learn more about making lifestyle choices to improve their health. Learn how to identify healthy life choices and make the changes that will work for you. Everyone is welcome, though registration is required. It’s not too early to mark your calendars for the Big Valley Historical Society’s fundraising event on Saturday, Mar. 3. Come join them at the Big Valley Jubilee Hall for an evening of good food and drinks and be entertained by the infamous country comedian/poet “Ol’Ugly”. Tickets for this event can be obtained from any Historical Society member and at the Bistro on the Boardwalk. Funds raised will go for repairs to the McAlister Motors building and the historic St. Edmund’s Church on the hill.
